Dear Parents/Carers
Missdorothy.com project
I am pleased to inform you that we have been invited to take part in a KS2 personal safety programme called the missdorothy.com project. The project is learning through fun, but addresses priorities such as the protection of children, raising self esteem, encouraging social inclusion, promoting citizenship and celebrating diversity.
Who is Dot.com?
Missdorothy.com or Dot.com to her friends is a cartoon celebrity designed to facilitate learning by fun. She was also created to raise awareness of the needs of children and keep them safe.
Dot is a friend for all children with her own website www.missdorothy.com where children can read Dots diary every day, her adventures every week and talk to Dot anytime by emailing dot@missdorothy.com.
Delivery of the programme
All pupils in Key Stage 2 will receive their own workbook. There is a workbook for Y3/4 and one for Y5/6. The programme will be taught for approximately one hour per week for fifteen weeks, starting the w/b 20th February. All lessons are cross referenced to the National Curriculum, where applicable, and embrace the five National Outcomes for Children.
Some lessons will be delivered by our police school liaison officer, Chris Plumridge. Chris will officially launch the project with a mini disco for KS2 pupils on 2nd March during the day.
If you would like to see any of the material, please see your son/daughters teacher
The programme embraces the concept that children need to feel good about themselves to become effective learners in the classroom. We are excited about being part of the pilot, and would welcome any feedback from both yourselves and your children.
Yours sincerely,
H Chesters

In order for children to proceed on a normal path in their growth and development, to feel good about themselves and to become effective learners in the classroom, they need to feel safe and secure in their environment.
This project is learning by fun, but addresses priorities such as child protection, raising self esteem, encouraging social inclusion, promoting citizenship and celebrating cultural diversity.
