Barnby Dun Primary School is a thriving village school with a reputation for a high standard of education for all its pupils. It caters for children from 4-11 years. There are presently 315 children in 12 classes.

The school was opened in September 1994 after the amalgamation of the village first and middle schools. The school has since grown rapidly due to new housing development in the area and its popularity within the surrounding  community. As a result of a second very successful OFSTED Inspection in October 2000, the school was awarded status as a Beacon School in September 2002.

Barnby Dun is a growing village situated approximately 5 miles from the centre of Doncaster. There is a mixture of private and council housing. Due to parental preference, the school also draws many children from outlying villages and other areas of Doncaster. We are currently oversubscribed and new extensions were built in 2000 and 2003 to meet growing demand.

At the present time, there are five classes in KS 1 and seven in KS2. The building is semi-open plan throughout with shared areas off most classrooms. There is a central library used by all the children, a computer suite and a hall which is also used for dining. A mobile classroom is used as a music room.

The school is situated on a pleasant site. There is a large playground at the rear of the building. The rest of the site is grassed and enhanced with a number of trees.  An additional playing field and a 'wild' area has been retained on the site of the old middle school (now Doncaster Schools Library Service) and is used by the school.

Everyone in school works hard to promote and maintain a high level of parental support and the school also has a high profile in the local community

The school is committed to the provision of a high quality education for all its pupils in a welcoming, stimulating environment.  We hold a 'Basic Skills Agency Quality Mark for Literacy and Numeracy'.  Recently we were one of 30 schools selected nationally to feature in the OFSTED publication 'The Curriculum in Successful Primary Schools'.   There is a joint commitment to continuous school improvement and the raising of standards. From September 2000, with the opening of the new computer suite, the school has particularly focused on the further development of ICT capability across the curriculum.

The school has a strong commitment to the training and development of all its staff, and was successful in achieving the 'Investors in People Award' in March 2002.  This was successfully reviewed in 2008.
